Someone once told me, "Sometimes fear is what makes you fly." This book of poetry was written the year I was an exchange student in Mexico. It was in learning how to love and in living with a particular freedom that vanquished the fears I would face every day. Poetry is like summarizing an entire book in a few sentences or like narrowing the focus in so close that it could be described in a couple words. Poetry is like taking an entire long experience of a million different emotions and creating some harmonic rhythm, in the form of words, that must reach an audience and make them feel exactly what you felt. It's like a dance, where you feel as if you are moving and creating the lines, though you haven't moved. Loving and knowing we are loved is what carries us through hard times. When you are loved, you are calm. When you are loved, you are inspired. When you are loved, you can finally put things in their proper perspective. God was teaching me to love, and I learned what someone very dear to me had been trying to teach me all along, that "Love gives you wings to fly."
